The Hex Girls Season 2 for Cartoon Action Hour Season 2

It is very surprising to me, but one of my most visited pages around here is my page for the Hex Girls. I am not sure why that is, but it is above beyond the most popular page I have here save for my one on Xena and Gabrielle.  In any case it got me thinking that the next "Season" of the Hex Girls should be powered by Cartoon Action Hour: Season 2.
BTW: I want to thank all the people at the CAH-Fans Yahoo Group that helped me with this.

The Hex Girls: World Tour (Season 2)

So using the Series Sheet to the left I came up with the following series for the Hex Girls.
Series Name: Hex Girls, Season 2 (the World Tour)
Tagline: "We're gonna put a spell on you!"
Goals: Tour the world, stop Lord Salem
Message:  Each episode ends with information on being a better "eco-citizen" because "Together we can make it happen!"

Premise: The Hex Girls (after their groundbreaking North American tour) are now touring the world and fighting off the worst monsters that Europe and Asia have to offer.  Flash Cameron was sent to a mental institution, but the threat now comes from the ghost of an old puritan witch hunter, Lord Salem.  Salem, along with his two bumbling henchmen Riff and Raff (they were not raised from the dead properly and are more like zombies than ghosts) attempt to stop the Hex Girls at any cost.  Not to just expose them, but to take them back the Neither World's Court for trail and sentencing.   Everyone is back; Thorn, Luna, Dusk and even Jasper.

Stats for Cartoon Action Hour 2
If you want more background for these characters, and stats for Cinematic Unisystem and Witchgirls Adventures then please check my previous Hex Girls posting.  Again, these stats below are not strict conversions, but more of a re-stating of the characters based on their concept in CAH:S2.

Lord Salem
New Season and a New Bad Guy.  This one-ups the ante from Flash Cameron.  He doesn't want to just expose the Hex Girls, he wants to put them on trial and then when he gets the guilty verdict he knows he will get, hang them.

Quick Bio: A puritan witch hunter is back from the dead, Lord Salem, and he is after the "wicked witches".  He was raised from the dead when the Hex Girls played a pre-world tour concert in their home town of Oakhaven, MA.  While their music played, he rose from the local graveyard.
He has two assistants, Riff and Raff,  but their resurrection was not as complete as his own so they are somewhat stupid.

Lord Salem hates witches. Good, evil, young, old, they are all the same to him.  And witches must be stopped.  Salem wants to drag the Hex Girls to the Neither World's Courts where he will try them on charges of Witchcraft and violating the Natural Order of Things.  To do that he must be able to capture all three doing magic in public.  He follows and along the way he summons up all sorts of supernatural threats to get the girls to expose themselves.

Appearance: Lord Salem appears much as he did in the 17th Century.  He has a scar down his face that he claims was made by an evil witch. He does not carry weapons, saying that Righteousness is his only weapon, but Riff and Raff carry swords, knives and guns as needed.  If he is forced into fighting he will produce a fine, thin sword.
Factoids: "Completely obsessed with exposing witches", "unstoppable", "speaks in a low quiet voice", "completely convinced he is right".
Subplots: Mental hangup destroy all witches, and the Hex Girls in particular
Traits: Can Call out Supernatural beings to do his bidding 7 (AF), Immune to Magic 6, Lawyer (knows the legal system of Earth and the Neither World) 6, Stealthy 3, Strong 3, Swordmaster 5, Tracker 5, Will 5
Stats: Threshold 12, Battle Ratting 5

Lord Salem typically will call out the local supernatural creature to attack or otherwise expose the Hex Girls.  Each being would have to be stated up normally.

Obviously, I still need to do stats for Riff and Raff (they are the same really) and Jasper Ridgeway.

I wants it! My FLGS can't get Cartoon Action Hour for me. And Amazon doesn't carry it either...

I might buy the PDF download.

Now give me Tara and Willow in CA2 terms (you haven't done that yet have you?) and I will officially declare myself interested. Especially if you throw in a certain someone that is dear to my heart! ;)

Ooo. Valerie perhaps? ;)

I do have Willow and Tara stats and the perfect picture to use for them too.

Gotta stick with what I know.

G'day mate, Danny Illiwara of The Hex Girls Coven here,

I like your ideas for the 2nd season of The Hex Girls show.

Lord Salem is a great villian. Except I'm a bit confused. If he's using supernatural beings to attack THGs then doesn't that make him a warlock? Of is it just because he's dead that he can do these things? What I mean, is did he have the power to raise spirits when he was alive?

I like the music business- side of a band cartoon. Such as the Hex Girls making music videos, doing interviews, interacting with fans, publicity, getting paid, and of course the creative aspects of actually composing music (like coming up with lyrics that rhyme).

And since this a show starring women there should be copious amounts of romance. Misunderstandings, love triangles, crushes, etc should be sprinkled about. With careful seasonal planning all this and the ghostbusting aspects can still be in play.

Are you going to be making up episodes for this season like you did the first season?

Do you ever plan on having the Scooby Gang guest star?

Another show you might like that uses aspects of music to battle villians is a British cartoon called Freefonix. It has excellent music. The heroes sound like the Black Eyed Peas while the villians Mantyz sound like a glam-rock band.

Here's the trailer to the show.

And their website.

Thanks for the links! I'll have to check these out.

Lord Salem, yes he is purposefully a contradiction. He is doing things that he would find "evil" but that is the point of his obsession; he has become what he hates.

I have the original Cartoon Action Hour. I haven't used it, but it was a great read.

Lord Salem really is a great villain. I can see his justification of using supernaturals. "Maybe the abominations will kill each other off." Reminds of me of General Eiling, especially his acts in the "Patriot Act" episode of JLU (one of my favorites). I might use a character like him in my next Buffy game.

Oh yeah and I checked out the anti-Hex Girl site you linked. To put it nicely, that guy is kookoo bananas.

G'day mate, Danny Illiwara again,

I was just thinking about this the other night, but what is the tone of The Hex Girls Show? Action-comedy? Musical-comedy? Musical-drama? Meaning, are the situations that THGs end up in serious or played for laughs like Scooby Doo? Jasper, Riff & Raff, and Flash can all be comic relief while THGs can be more serious. I'm guessing the show is somewhere between Gargoyles and Mystery, Inc.

The reason I ask, because I had this idea for Lord Salem. Remember, Disney's Huncback of Notre Dame? Where Judge Frollo wanted to eradicate all the gypsies, but also lusted after Esmeralda. It could be the same thing with Lord Salem, he hates, yet is fascinated by witches in general and THGs in particular.
At the end of the season when Lord Salem drags the girls to the Neither World court- a guility verdict would mean burning at the stake? Unless he offers them a deal.

Either that or Lord Salem's descendant is alive and well and a fan of THGs. Lord Salem seeks him out, but can't win his support cause he has a crush on Luna or Dusk.

Danny,

I a word. Yes. ;)

Jasper is the comic relief guy for THG while Riff and Raff tone down the menace of Lord Salem (who should be very scary).

Salem is evil and he uses magic which is exactly what he is fighting against. So your idea of the judge from the Disney Hunchback is a good idea.

I'll have to see if I do more episode ideas. Unlike season 1 I am not sure if I will ever get the chance to run this particular game.

A guilty verdict would mean that yes. But the idea here is to have the Court commute their sentence due to all the good works they have done and then instead imprison Salem on the same charges. simple? Yeah, but it is supposed to mimic an 80s cartoon.

G'Day mate, Danny Illiwara again,

Historically speaking, witch hunters sent innocent people to be burned at the stake. Because hysteria insued as soon as one person accuses another of witchcraft. Ever read Arthur Miller's The Crucible in high school?

Since this is a cartoon, I have to wonder did Lord Salem send innocents to be burned at the stake? Or just real evil witches since there would be a need in this world? Or did he do both when he found out how lucrative witch hunting can be? A town could declare 4 or 5 people (usually older women or strange men) witches/warlocks and seize their property. Worse, Lord Salem doesn't think he's a villian but a hero.

The rule about catching witches doing magic in public is a good one, since it cuts down on the innocents burned at the stake. Though I'm sure some slipped through the cracks.

I was just thinking that there should be the inevitable team up episode where THGs and LS have to work together to defeat the bigger bad. Perhaps as the mid-season finale 2 parter. The bigger bad comes out to hear THGs, starts attacking people, LS battles it only to be defeated. THGs can't handle it either. Lord Salem and THGs separately try to find the Macguffin Device that can stop the bigger bad. The best course of action is for them to work togethr. Riff & Raff's idea! Lord Salem goes along with it for 3reasons:
1. He doesn't like to be defeated by anyone.
2. He thinks he can't catch THGs doing magic if they're together.
3. He won't admit it, but he wants to be closer to the object of his desire.

THGs don't really want to do this but the bigger bad will keep ruining their shows if they don't. When they're all taking a break- Lord Salem sits by himself reading or cleaning weapons,in the dark, Riff & Raff and Luna & Dusk sit together only because they figure that R&R are too dumb to keep anything to themselves and will spill LS' secrets (Dusk peaks under Riff's mask after what she sees she may never sleep again), Thorn doesn't want a part of any of this. Lord Salem is always creepy but in these episodes he's got the creepy turned up to 12. Thorn esepecially doesn't like how Lord Salem looks at them when he thinks they're unaware. Lord Salem tries to come up to Thorn and speak to her, but she keeps him at an arm's length. He walks up, she walks away. The others watch him slowly chase her around the area. The only thing that makes him back off is THGs cat(s). Cats are witches familiars and Lord Salem does not trust them, hates them. Cats don't like him either, they hiss and swipe at him. Cue Frollo's "Hellfire" song. They get the Macguffin Device, THGs sing, the bigger bad comes out, LS uses the Macguffin device, defeats the monster. Gives the device to Riff & Raff. He turns around, The Hex Girls are gone. He turns again only to see the Macguffin has disappeared too. Either they took it from R&R or just asked them to give it to them really sweetly. The Hex Girls don't want to hang around for the very likely double cross and aren't going to let Lord Salem keep something as powerful as the Macguffin device either.

Thats my idea. I had some more for Lord Salem's descandent. But I'll stop for now.
